WARM COCKLES

OK, I admit it. There's nothing that warms the cockles of my heart more, or makes my morning coffee taste that much better than reading about a real estate broker, agent or attorney getting convicted of real estate fraud. So if your cockels are cold, or you want to join me in a great tasting cup of coffee, feel free to do so. Luckily not everyone is free to do so this morning: For cockle warming, CLICK HERE . If you want to know what your cockles actually are,CLICK HERE .

EVER HEARD OF REALTYTRAC ? YOUR CREDIT CARD HAS

Realtytrac is a huge, public, search & tracking website. If you've done any real estate searches over the last year (and let's be honest, who hasn't), you have probably used them. But like so many other "Search Now and Not Know You Pay Later" sites, RealtyTrac has a funny way of beefing up their bottom line at your expense. Below is a link from today's Los Angeles Times. After you're done reading it, check your credit card bill:
Real estate company's pitch leads to unexpected bill -- latimes.com

This article is another very real reason why information availability can be a good AND a bad thing. It also illustrates the value of having a good, local Realtor at your side. The list of homes and information you get from your Realtor.. let's just say Forefront Real Estate for instance... are truly free, and contain the most current and reliable information in the market. Pubic websites are great for initial research, but don't rely on them. As you have seen, there can be strings attached. And those strings are tied to your wallet.

SCAMS & SHAMS

I was looking around the California Association of Realtors (C.A.R.) website this morning, and found this flier on Foreclosure/Short Sale Scams. Unfortunately, because of the vast number of distressed properties here in Southern California, there are more scam artists popping up every day. Before you do anything with a solicitation , I strongly encourage you to call your lender directly. They are the ones making the decisions on the money they lent. You don't need to pay someone else to negotiate for you. At best, you'll spend money you didn't need to in getting the same result. And you could end up spending a LOT of money on nothing at all.
